Outdoor education usually refers to organized learning that occurs outside the home. There are various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, canoeing, ropes course, and group games. Some special education purposes is to bring children closer to Mother Nature, build confidence, how children can manage difficult situations, to enhance personal and social development. Outdoor activities include a variety of abseiling, backpacking, camping, canoeing, Geo caching, kayaking, nature study, questing, rafting, rock climbing, ropes course, sail training, snowboarding, and find your way. Outdoor education is education 'in', 'about', and 'for' out of the door.

Outdoor education can occur in the school yard, swamps, grasslands, forests, beaches, lakes, grasslands, deserts, estuaries, and biomes.
